ADM/Golden Peanut Acquires Harrell Nut Company

On October 31, 2014, Golden Peanut Company, LLC, a subsidiary of ADM announced that they had acquired Harrell Nut Company. They also announced that with the acquisition, they would be changing their name to Golden Peanut and Tree Nuts. As stated in several previous newsletters, the shape of the US pecan shelling industry continues to evolve in what has become a very hostile market place. This acquisition will probably not be the last as the shelling industry attempts to reshape itself in the face of dwindling financing options, customers with little or no concern for the health of their suppliers and stiffer competition from both Mexico and China.
